I have been working with Momentum World for a month, and Time For Tea is one of the few projects I have been helping to market. However, despite a thorough explanation from my superiors about Time For Tea’s mission, I still felt like I was not able to truly comprehend the concept behind sending tea to people in power, or how to create a marketing campaign around the programme.

As part of our project “Lessons from Lockdown”, CILL and Chesterfield College are building a new virtual space to represent different European countries. Please help us to collect resources to represent your country in this virtual world! All you need to do is to send us photos or images of things that you think will show your country in a positive way, together with a short title or description. We would also like some sound files – music, people talking, natural sounds etc. (All materials must be copyright-free).

We had organised a EuroPeers litter picking event in Austria twice already, where EuroPeers all over Austria participated in the activity at the same time. This time also, anyone can help, in accordance with the motto: Doing something good for the environment and raising awareness for the network and the ESC. Our goal now is to start the whole thing internationally. In the afternoon on Saturday, 7th of May we will be litter picking in many different places, altogether. To achieve this, we need YOUR help to get the project going in your city/region. It really is not too much of an effort. We will meet online a couple of times and, explain the steps. And please do not forget, it does not have to be a huge event in your city/town. Every effort counts.

My European curiosity started with my European Voluntary Service back in 2012, which feels like ages ago now. After EVS in Spain, I wanted to stay active, so I ended up joining the EuroPeers network. At this time I lived and studied in Germany. While in the system of European youth education, I had participated in all sorts of training opportunities, and activities and eventually became a trainer for the German National Agency. I then continued my studies in Sweden with an Erasmus semester and ended up staying for my whole Masters’s degree. So up until 10 days ago, I lived on the Swedish west coast in Gothenburg and now you can find me in snowy Tallinn on the Estonian coast. The EuroPeers network is full of surprises and sometimes you spontaneously end up in a different country. My transition from coast to coast has been going smoothly so far, I am learning loads of fun and exciting things about how to coordinate our cool international network. And I can’t wait to connect with you all!

2021 much like its predecessor brought on a whole new set of challenges for the EuroPeers UK network. Young people have yet again shown incredible resilience, and faced up to the new reality, shaped by the pandemic, and also politically, with the UK outside of the European Union. EuroPeers UK remain the link connecting internationally-minded UK young people with peers benefiting from Erasmus+ within Europe and beyond.

On the 29th of October EuroPeers UK hosted a Halloween themed online social. The event was attended by around 18 participants from different European countries, such as France, Germany, Finland, Romania and Italy! During the social, we shared our favourite things about Halloween and how we celebrated the holiday in our countries. It was really interesting to hear that not everyone is dressing up and in some countries people spend this time with families, visiting cemeteries and dedicating this day to reflection, and relatives that are no longer with them. There was a chance for the recap of the Annual Network Meeting that took place in Rome as well as the more recent European Youth Event in Strasbourg. EuroPeers had a chance…

The Annual Network Meeting was a great opportunity for members from all around Europe to come together and share best practices, skills, memories and gather inspiration to help forge a path forward. I learned more about projects such as the international social events (of which the UK will be one of the next hosts!) and multiple podcasts already ran by EuroPeers, and delved into how to grow these projects ourselves. We also spoke about key topics such as Inclusion and the Environment, showcasing some of the great work that has been going on both…

It’s been more that two years since my EVS experience had started. Sometimes my mind is still reminiscing those days and their impact on me. The places I’ve been, the people I’ve met, my time away from home are always in the back of my mind.  Romania and England were the places where I each spent a full year, contributing as a teacher and photographer, while at the same time finding time to travel and explore more places. With my suitcase full of memories and my hard disk full of photos I really wanted to share with other people.

It’s long been a dream of mine to bring together people’s stories of international adventure. International experiences like our guests are describing can have such a huge impact on a person’s growth and development, and genuinely change lives. Of course, taking a year out to bum around the mountain tops is not viable for everyone, but a week-long project, however… The effect on a person can still be enormous.

The UK Parliament All-Party Parliamentary Group on Youth Affairs (APPG) has recently published a highly significant report on the future of youth work. At the same time, the government has announced the development of a “Youth Charter” to support young people “over the next generation and beyond”. At a time when youth services have been severely cut and when youth workers are under unprecedented pressure, it is encouraging to know that there are new initiatives which could re-establish the importance of youth work as a form of non-formal education, instead of just a crisis response to social and security issues. There is widespread political support for new policy and funding ideas for the youth sector.
