EuroPeers and our partners have started a fun and informative challenge on Twitter and Facebook! Starting on the 20th of July with Erasmus+ UK, each of our partners will take it in turns to post 3 questions about their organisation for you to answer and vote on. Not only does this give you a greater understanding of our partners, but it also raises awareness of the many fantastic initiatives you too can be a part of, as well as the questions being some good fun. Have a look at our partner’s websites or socials and follow the links to check it out! We will be taking part on the 3rd of August! #EPlusChallenges Click on links below to learn more…

We decided it was high time we gave our signature square cards a new look. We will be introducing new quotes from our most active EuroPeers to keep inspiring young people about the international journeys we have taken, and those we look forward to making in the future. We are also in the process of redesigning our website, so do get in touch if you would like to suggest any content we should be adding. We hope you are looking forward to the new future after lockdown, and that you are keen to join new opportunities with EuroPeers.

The UK Parliament All-Party Parliamentary Group on Youth Affairs (APPG) has recently published a highly significant report on the future of youth work. At the same time, the government has announced the development of a “Youth Charter” to support young people “over the next generation and beyond”. At a time when youth services have been severely cut and when youth workers are under unprecedented pressure, it is encouraging to know that there are new initiatives which could re-establish the importance of youth work as a form of non-formal education, instead of just a crisis response to social and security issues. There is widespread political support for new policy and funding ideas for the youth sector.

On the 14th of November, we ran a stall at Queen Margaret Universitypromoting EuroPeers and international opportunities with Erasmus+. We told the students on their lunch break about volunteering with the European Solidarity Corps and how to take part in international training courses and youth exchanges. Afterwards, we did a small presentation to share our experiences with a few interested students. We are planning to repeat a similar event in the near future again.

The European Solidarity Corps programme is relatively new to the European world of education and opportunities. So when I was asked to attend a Solidarity Projects Focus Group in Birmingham, I didn’t take too much time to think about it. I confirmed my attendance and then started preparing. The idea was straight forward: come in, give your input based on your experience, and share your feedback.

Eleven months ago, I started my journey to the beautiful Lake District, where I would complete my EVS with Momentum World. Those months were very eventful and a rollercoaster of emotions. I’ll be forever thankful for the experiences I’ve had here and the memories I’ve made. Momentum World has given me, and later both me and Max, the chance to travel across the UK and meet inspiring people from all over Europe. We got to come along to Momentum World Training Courses and events as well as EuroPeers UK Training Courses. We were challenged with unfamiliar tasks and that enabled us to learn so much so…

Following the EuroPeers UK training course in June, I was determined to complete level 3 of my membership. At 6 in the morning on the 1st of May, I took the train from Edinburgh to Manchester to attend the “Engaging Volunteers, Changing Lives” event, by the European Solidarity Corps. The main purpose of the conference was to discuss how can we engage more volunteers to take part in different projects abroad and how different organisations can send their volunteers on projects. Moreover, people from the National Agency were explaining how can we write a solidarity project application for the European Solidarity Corps.

On the 28th March 2019, Birmingham City University held an event for current students that focused on volunteering abroad and the benefits of the aforementioned. The main aim of the session was to make students aware of the benefits of volunteering abroad and that although they do not receive a salary they get their expenses paid. Daniel and Ema joined me at the session to discuss their experiences. Students at the start were really moved by their testimony especially Ema’s testimony taking into account how much her volunteering experience influenced her life, I believe this made the students feel more comfortable but also it helped them relate to their story.

I live in Brussels and I am a EuroPeer who loves to run. On Sunday 17th March 2019 I participated in the Fintro Jogging d’Ixelles/Elsene, a race covering 10km of the streets of Ixelles/Elsene. This area, which is close to the heart of the European Union, is widely known for its European and international vibe, diversity, and multicultural character. It is, therefore, the place to be in Brussels to meet people from different backgrounds and of course to enjoy running with people from all around the world.

2018 has not had the easiest start but definitely had a fascinating ending. I’ve been working with Momentum World for about six months now, so I’ve experienced one or two workshops. But it was a first for me to be leading one for other people! I was eager to get things right, and thankfully had a framework provided by Olga, so that all I had to do was implement. Still, it was with the thrill of tickling butterfly wings that I wrote out my flipcharts and visualised the icebreaker.

The International EuroPeers Training was organised by Jugend für Europa, the National Agency of Germany in conjunction with the National Agencies for Erasmus+ Youth in Action. There were 25 participants from Bulgaria, Estonia, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Montenegro, Serbia, Slovak Republic, Turkey, and the United Kingdom. During this training, the outcomes were that the participants got a clear definition of EuroPeers: What do they do? Who do they promote? What is the peer idea? Learned about European Solidarity Corps and other programmes, to become European story-tellers and how to promote events, increase visibility, and implementation of their own projects (presentation skills, project management, graphic facilitation skills, etc.)

Street Action in London. As we concluded our training course in Newland Park, newly trained EuroPeers were eager to put what they had learned into practice. On July 10th, a few of us decided to organise a street action in Hyde Park. We gave out leaflets, spoke to young people about Erasmus Plus, and shared our own experiences with the programme. It was a friendly and easy way to engage young people in a conversation about international opportunities. We are keen to organise more similar activities in the future.
