We are in the midst of a pandemic. One of the strangest things about this time is that this is an almost universal experience: so much of the globe is experiencing a similar situation simultaneously. I managed to fit two two-month trips abroad (first in North America, then Europe) before the world dissolved into chaos, and now I have friends scattered everywhere around the planet. With the lock down in the UK, these far away friends might as well be just as close as the ones that live a few miles from me, and I’ve been using this time to nurture those connections. Scheduled video calls have become my new normal for socializing. Being united in our problem, we have to be united in other ways–we should be there to support each other, checking in on our friends and family, sharing extra resources if we have enough for ourselves. We will pull through this. But we have to do it together
